If Social Media Makes You Sick Take this Medicine

I am sick of social media, burnt out, and tired. This is something I hear often when people are new to social media marketing.  So here is my diagnosis and prescription to make you feel better and get real results.

The Diagnosis You are trying to do too much, with too little time and too little knowledge.  Ever heard this phrase?  You can have everything you want, just not at the same time?  In the world of LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, FourSquare, WordPress and the list goes on and on; you need to operate strategically.  Focus in on your key business objectives and determine which of these tools can best help you get results you want.

The Prescription It may sound simple but listen to this.  Determine what you want.  Really think about this because if you misdiagnose the problem, you are at risk for taking the wrong medicine.  And we all know that the wrong medicine can kill you.  It is the same here.  Know what you want; focus on it and you will be sure to get it.  Most businesses that are new to social media skip this step and dive right in and this is a big mistake.  Be sure to get up to speed on this ever changing social media landscape.  Do not try to do this on your own because the old rules no longer apply.  Buy a book, take a class or find a mentor.  This small investment can get you on the road to being healthy very quickly with much better results.

The Recovery Time Now that you have slowed down and are on the right medicine, you will be able to better manage your social media activity and you will be able to achieve the results that you are striving for.  All of this takes time and social media is not a silver bullet.  Be patient and grow your following.  Publish remarkable content.  Engage others from your heart.  Develop a relationship and then and only then will you be able to get the kind of results that everyone wants but only the smart social media marketers achieve.  That can be you.

I’m in touch with so many people who blame the social media with no comprehension about the core of the problem.
